THE MYSTERY of ST FINNIGAN’S ELBOW is this years Eastern Angles Christmas offering and sees the welcome return of writing/directing duo Pat Whymark and Julian Harries, the team behind Dial M for Murgatroyd. Here’s some press on their last show with us:-
‘an energetic satirical treat‘ ‘a blissful cross between a Round the Horne parody of The Mousetrap and old fashioned revue‘ with ‘daft physical jokes chucked in at speed, never milked …and ‘ some fine Kenneth Hornery‘ but above all ‘the tight writing and sheer discipline shine‘. THE TIMES
A country house murder mystery, it combines a plot worthy of Agatha Christie, dialogue almost as good as PG Wodehouse and action as absurd as Monty Python. If ever American tourists return in numbers to asset-stripped Britain, this would make a great West End attraction. THE OBSERVER
So what of this years show? Well the more eagle eyed of you may have spotted the similarity between the Saints St Trinian and St Finnigan, neither of whom are particularly easy to find in The Lives of The Great Saints. Heres what Pat and Julian have to say on the show …
‘The year is 1936 and at St Finnigan’s, a remote convent school for girls in sleepy Suffolk, a crisis is looming. The famous relic St Finnigan’s funny bone – has disappeared! Who, or what, is the shadowy figure that flits along the school corridors at night? Who is the strange foreign gentlemen staying at the Dog and Posset? And what is the odd smell coming from the Tuck Shop? Can the Trumpington twins solve the mystery before Cardinal Lambrusco arrives from more?….you’ll have to book to find out how all will be revealed.
As always you can expect the usual trademark songs, bonkers story line and seasonal silliness. Here’s a little flavour (from Dial M)
And of course if its an excuse to dust out the St Trinians box set and revel in the wonders of Alistair Sim and Co what is there not to like. Here are just a couple of reminders ‘ They’re Back’ and ‘Jolly Hockey Sticks’…
The show runs from the 3rd December through to 31 January and will visit Ipswich, Woodbridge and Peterborough. Find out more – and book your tickets – here.
