To find out more about The Hairy Biker ride in which I’ll cover (hopefully) just over 400 miles visiting the location of over 40 Eastern Angles plays and over 30 regular venues in an attempt to raise £2000 for the company see here.
Day 2 of the ride takes me from Peverel through Witham (1000), Braintree (1130), Coggeshall (1200), Wivenhoe (1600) and onto Brightlingsea (1700).I’ll pass through Coggeshall around where 2007 Peapickers was set – a kind of who do you think you are for the stage. Later I’ll pass through Colchester and its impressive Castle. The castle was where Matthew Hopkins interrogated and imprisoned suspected witches – in and around 1645. The witches of East Anglia are potential rich material for a theatre piece don’t you think? Talking of Witches on route to Brightlingsea I’ll be passing through Wivenhoe – once home to John Gyles, Agnes Herd, Alice Dixon and Mary Johnson – who were all accused of being witches.
On day 2 I’m on the hunt for:-
– regular attenders of Eastern Angles shows in Witham, Braintree, Coggleshall, Colchester, Wivenhoe and Brightlingsea.
– people who saw Peapickers
– anyone with an interesting witches story!
