Introducing The Hairy Biker

The Hairy Biker
covering 400 miles – visiting the location of over 40 plays and 30 venues

Matt on Bike (2)Sometimes several things collide and an idea begins to emerge. So it has been with the cycle ride I am just about to embark upon (I start on June 22nd at High Beach and after 9 days of cycling should with a fair wind and weather arrive in Peterborough on Tuesday 2 July – full details below).

Of course a primary factor was Eastern Angles winning an Arts Council Catalyst award back in May 2012. The award of £120k is dependent on us raising a much needed £100k ourselves – a pretty stiff target but one we are keen to meet. So every one pound we raise – with the Catalyst match and gift aid – is worth £2.20.

The ride though is not just about raising money. 2013 sees Eastern Angles produce its 100th show (Parkway Dreams). That’s 100 shows which have toured extensively across East Anglia leaving their own imprint on the audiences and places they visited. So I’m looking forward to visiting some of the places the shows have toured to as well as the places those shows have been about. But I’m also hoping to meeting Eastern Angles friends and audiences along the way – hearing from them why the work of company’s like Eastern Angles really matter. I’ll be capturing those stories and places on route using my trust flip camera and audio recorder and blogging as I go.

So the ride is both a celebration and a way of raising much needed funds. Remember with gift aid and catalyst every £1 donated is actually worth £2.20 to Eastern Angles. Please do sponsor me by visiting the page here and if you’d like to share your Eastern Angles related story please do get in touch (leave a message on the blog or e mail me at matthew@easternangles.co.uk !)
