Back home to Essex to find the latest edition of @songlinesmag on the mat – and I’m delighted to find that Tamikrest have been nominated for the best newcomer award.
‘Heavily influenced by Tinariwen (writes Songlines on their second Album Adagh), fellow Touareg band Tamikrest expand on the loping rhythms, exotic time signatures and hypnotic vocals of the desert blues with the help of American indie rockers, Dirtmusic. The results are accessible and captivating, without ever losing touch with their roots’
Andrew Morgan (former manager of Tinariwen) described the band as ‘the definite future of Touareg music’ so its little wonder then that we’re getting excited about them playing #homefest11. Their new album is out in April – and this trailer gives you a flavour of what you can expect:-
For Home the band will be playing an exclusive totally acoustic set in the Great Hall – as well as a slightly more electric set on our new outdoor stage. After that they’ll be hot footing it to London for a BBC Radio 2 session with Bob Harris. This next track is from the new album –
Meanwhile this is Aicha – the anthemic track from their debut album
