Seth Lakeman encore at the Princess Theatre

As part of the Rock Walk Opening Festival – ( theres a very personal account of the development of Rock Walk at this blog here ) – Dartington invited local boy made good – Seth Lakeman to headline the closing gig in the Princess Theatre. Filmed from the circle here is Seth’s encore performed to a very loud and appreciative crowd…the circle was moving so much I actually felt slightly sea sick at one point.

The encore features Blood Upon Copper and Race to be King. You can find details of further Seth tour dates here – its well worth catching – and here are details of Dartingtons next folk gigs – St Agnes Fountain 9/12 and Lau 16/3 (both in the Great Hall).

Lau – which of course features the amazing Kris Dreaver – have supported Seth on several occasions so its a nice link – but with a BBCR2 Best Folk Group award tucked under their arms its another group biting at the heels of Seth for mantle of folk super group (think Bellowhead or Imagined Village). And it wouldn’t surprise me if in a couple of years Ben & Alfie – students at SWMS – are right up there too given the great support slot they played to a very appreciative crowd.

But for now -on the evidence of Saturday night’s performance – that folk super group crown is still pretty secure on Seth’s head…for now!
